Italian Bomboloni !!

This Italian Bomboloni is a whole new dimension of deliciousness. Oooh, bomboloni are the sweets of our childhood, and a bite of them can literally makes you feel happy! Definitely a keeper !!


- 3 cups bread or all-purpose flour
- 2 to ¼ teaspoons fast-acting dry yeast
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, plus more for coating 1 lemon zested
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 3/4 cup of whole milk
- 4 tablespoons of softened butter (about 1/2 stick )
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 
- For frying ; Vegetable oil
- For filling; Chocolate-hazelnut spread, jam or pastry cream


1. Make sure to combine together the flour, yeast, salt, sugar, and lemon zest in a large bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook,.

2. Next you should add the eggs, milk, butter, and vanilla extract, and mix well. Immdiately knead the dough in the stand mixer for 2 minutes, or if making the dough by hand.

3. Afterwrads, please tip it onto a floured work surface and knead for 5 minutes, or until it’s smooth and elastic but still quite sticky.

4. Make sure to transfer the dough to a large, lightly oiled bowl. Then use plastic wrap to cover and let to rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

5. Now use a rolling pin and roll out the dough until about 3/4 inch thick, then cut the dough into disks using a round pastry cutter the size of a cup.

6. On a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, place the dough and cover with plastic wrap. And please let to rise for 1 hour more.

7. In a large, deep pan, heat oil to 350 F, then fry the doughnuts, in batches, turning halfway through the cooking time, until golden brown, about 4 to 5 minutes.

8. When finished, please remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Remember to dredge the doughnuts in granulated sugar until completely covered. 

9. You may want to spoon the filling of your choice into a piping bag fitted with a medium nozzle. Finally, make a small hole in the side of each doughnut, push in the nozzle and squeeze to fill the bomboloni. Serve warm and Enjoy!
